This restaurant's first Northeast location will be in Worcester
Island Fin Poke, which has locations in Florida and Delaware, is aiming to open its first Northeast restaurant in Worcester in mid-May, according to its Facebook page. Here are five things you need to know:
1. What is Poke? According to InStyle, "[A]t its most basic level, a poke bowl is made up of a base, typically rice, cubed raw sushi-grade salmon or tuna, and Asian toppings like soy sauce and seaweed. While raw salmon or tuna are the standard proteins, fear not, you can sub in other options like cooked chicken, crab, or tofu, if you’re not feeling the fish or are vegan." 2. What's Island Fin Poke? According to its website, "Established in 2016 by Mark and Paul who had a dream to create a quick casual restaurant that serves incredible Hawaiian style poke in a cool casual environment and transports you from every day to a surf shack on the beach. From their homemade sauces, 25 toppings & sustainably sourced fish you will be tasting the flavors of the islands." (https://www.islandfinpoke.com/ourstory)
3. What's on the menu? Like a number of fast-casual restaurants, Island Fin Poke allows you to build your own bowl. A bowl consists of a base (rice or spring mix), protein (5 types of fish plus chicken, spam or tofu), mix-ins like corn, onions and peppers, marinating sauces and toppings.
4. Where else is Island Fin Poke? There are currently two locations in Florida and one in Delaware. Three more are on the horizon in Florida, one in Las Vegas.
5. Where will the Worcester location be? Island Fin Poke will be the newest eatery in the Trolley Yard. It will join Hot Table paninis, Chipotle and Starbucks on the Park Ave. side of the former WRTA headquarters. It will be between Orangetheory Fitness and the new Gentle Dental location.
