Ryan Reynolds' summer blockbuster to film in Worcester next week
The new movie with Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool, The Proposal) will be filming in downtown Worcester next week.
"Free Guy" will be filming at Brew on the Grid, 56 Franklin St., on Wednesday. The shoot will halt traffic in and around the location, according to a flyer given to neighborhood residents and businesses.
According to the flyer, traffic will be restricted on Franklin, Portland, Federal and Church streets on Wednesday. In addition, parking will be restricted for preparation and wrap from Sunday to Friday.
The area around Brew on the Grid, 56 Franklin St., will be restricted to cars and parking next week for the filming of the new movie from 20th Century Fox.
The flyer twice names the movie to be filmed as "Level Up." There is no current production for a movie of that name, according to imdb.com, and a message at the phone number on the flyer refers to the Locations Department for "Free Guy."
On Tuesday, 20th Century Fox released a photo of the cast and director Shawn Levy (above). Levy directed the Night at the Museum trilogy and the Netflix series Stranger Things.
According to Past Magazine, the movie has "a cast and crew hand-picked, Super Smash Bros.-style, from every major pop-culture event from the past few years. It’s got everyone’s favorite electric rodent, Ryan Reynolds; international assassin Jodie Comer; Marvel’s comedic powerhouse Taika Waititi; and teenage angst-incarnate Joe Keery, among others."
The flyer does not mention which stars will be in Worcester for the filming.
"Free Guy" is an action comedy about a bank teller who discovers he's a character in a video game and the only person who can save the world.
Numerous media outlets are reporting the film's release date of Friday July 3, 2020, giving the movie a July Fourth weekend release normally reserved for studios' biggest summer movies.
